What Zodiac signs tell us about your dog

Dog StarWould you like to know what the astrological signs say about the personality of your service dog or your family canine pet? Do you ever read the horoscope for your own sign? If so, why not one for your dog!

We don’t claim to be zodiac experts.  We wouldn’t know if mercury is in retrograde or the moon is over the horizon, but we do know a few people who do. So, combing through some rather elaborate analysis, our trusty team at “my magic dog,” excerpted the most interesting and pertinent aspects for our readers, to let you know what each sign means in terms of your own dog’s personality.

Whether your dog was born under the sign of Aquarius or Capricorn, we think you’ll find some fascinating information here. Read on!  The stars are aligned and your dog’s personality is about to be revealed  . . .

Aries (March 21 – April 20)
Aries is the fire sign, which makes the Aries dog confident and determined. This is a dog that is extremely smart and playful. But the Aries dog also has a mind of his or her own.  They may not take direction well.  But, on the other side of this willful canine is the fact that an Aries dog will easily become the center of your world. Naturally inquisitive, Aries dogs often get into more trouble than the other signs, eating food they shouldn’t and getting into accidents. Best to have vet insurance because you’ll be spending more time that you’d like wondering how your Aries pup managed to wolf down an entire turkey carcass or your baby’s entire hamper of dirty nappies when you had only looked away for a minute.

Taurus (April 21 – May 20)
Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus, the planet of love. As an earth sign, however, Taurus, represented by the bull, has a lot of will power. When Taurus dogs zero into something they want, they Taurusare determined to have it, no matter what. They appreciate affection but only when they are in the mood. Like the earth, the Taurus dog does best in an environment of peacefulness. Loud noises and chaos stress and upset the dog born under the sign of Taurus.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
GeminiGemini, the Twins, are ruled by the planet Mercury, the planet of intelligence. Gemini dogs often show opposing characteristics, being both passive and aggressive, outgoing and reserved. These dogs are devoted although they rarely bond with one person, preferring the ying and yang of different people’s personalities. The Gemini is a quick learner, loves exercise, has a quick wit and is affectionate. However, they can also be nervous, indecisive in their eating habits, and prone to separation anxiety due to their intense need to be with others.

Cancer (June 21 -July 20)
Cancer, the Crab, is ruled by the Moon. Dogs born under this sign are said to be emotional, sensitive and nurturing. Ruled by water, Cancer dogs are loving and sweet natured. But the upside to their loving natures is that they need continuous reassurance. New places and people can be both troubling and frightening, causing them to be ill-tempered. Yet, with their inherently nurturing nature, Cancer dogs often make good companions for other dogs. Cancer dogs are ruled by their appetites and weight can quickly become a serious issue. Tidbits, treats, and free feeding are a recipe for disaster for the Cancer dog.

Leo (July 21 – August 20)
Leo, the Lion, is ruled by the Sun. While sun dogs are warming, noble, and generous, they also have energy to burn. Leos love play, and running outdoors may be their favorite activity. But, like the sun, the Leo dog insists on being the center of attention and will bark needlessly and continually just to let everyone know he or she is there. But if you have a Leo dog, then you also have the most loyal dog in the zodiac.

Virgo (August 21 – September 20)
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of intellect. When Virgo and Mercury are combined, they create the calmest dog in the astrological line up. The Virgo dog is a champion of stressful conditions. Like the Taurus, they love a routine and don’t do well with change. Virgos like to talk and follow you from one place to the next. This behavior makes them a great dog for people who enjoy the outdoors and love to travel.

Libra (September 21 – October 20)
Libra’s sign is the Scales. Ruled by the planet Venus, Libra dogs are indecisive and, often, hyperactive. They are notoriously difficult to train since they have trouble paying attention. Libra dogs are loving and pleasant but need gentle discipline in order to feel secure. This sign does not deal well with chaos and uncertainty. Structured routine is a must.

Scorpio (October 21 – November 20)
Scorpio is a water sign and highly emotional. Ruled by the planet Pluto, the Scorpio dog is robust and strong willed. They usually get what they want and will try to dominate other dogs and people. To keep a Scorpio dog happy, daily exercise is the best and fastest way to relieve their constant stress. Like their fellow Libra they crave structure. Without set routine and structure, the Scorpio dog will soon take advantage of everyone and everything. Scorpio dogs can handle solitude better than any other sign, but he or she also enjoys company, especially if they are being fawned over, petted and brushed.

Sagittarius (November 21 – December 20)
Sagittarius, the Archer, is a fire sign. This is a dog that loves a challenge and a little is never enough; they always want more. Happy-go-lucky dogs, who are outgoing, sensitive and kind, they are easily bowled over and picked on by other dogs.. They love to get physical affection and feel they are your one true love. As you are their whole world, more than any other sign the Sagittarius dog suffers from severe separation anxiety. For this reason, the Sagittarius dog often enjoys having the companionship of another dog in the house.

CapricornCapricorn (December 21 – January 20)
Capricorn the Goat is ruled by the planet Saturn, an earth sign. One of the most grounded signs of the Zodiac, Capricorn dogs are clean, refined, but intense with a willful mind of their own. However, Capricorns suffer acutely when confronted or living in a stressful situations. They usually don’t do well with other animals, since they see other animals as competition. But, given time and reassurance, they will eventually accept them.

Aquarius (January 21 – February 20)
AquariusAquarius is an air sign, which is considered the most intelligent and intuitive sign in the zodiac. Yet, the abundance of curiosity in the Aquarius dog can make them unpredictable. Their superior intelligence, however, means that these determined dogs expect to be able to do what they want, when they want to do it. They are also among the most loving, which makes them ideal companions for  another dog, a cat or a horse. Aquarians are mischievous and, often when you least expect it, devise clever antics that will astonish you.

Pisces (February 20 – March 20)
Pisces, the water sign, are the “poets of the zodiac.” The Pisces dog has a magical sensitivity. Our service dog, Morgan, was born under this sign. Hence, our name: My Magic Dog. Pisces Piscesdogs are inherently sweet, but because they stress easily, they need a  peaceful atmosphere. Like Leos, these dogs sometimes get bullied because of their non-aggressive nature. Pisces dogs are clever and able to get what they want without attracting much the attention. But don’t be fooled by this equitable canine. You may think you’ve got a well-trained dog; in truth the Pisces dog has you well trained.

And did you know . . .
Sirius, is the brightest star in the Earth’s night sky. In 1844 the German astronomer Friedrich Bessel thought that Sirius might have an unseen companion. Then, on January 31, 1862, American astronomer Alvan Graham Clark finally observed the faint companion, now called Sirius B, or affectionately “the Pup.”
